Inside the game

What you do in the game.

Settle a planet and build up its colony. Extractors produce Metal, Crystal and Fuel every hour, and you spend them on facilities, research and ships.
Design your own ships on a 32 by 32 hull grid, choose a class and fittings, then queue builds at your shipyard. Every upgrade shows its cost and completion time before you confirm it.
Send fleets along the lanes between seven star systems. The game shows an estimated arrival time before you commit, and fleets that arrive in the same second fight in one battle.
Join an alliance, invite commanders and plan arrivals together. A campaign runs for up to 120 days, and three relays decide who wins.

How to start

Open stargrip.truckfishgames.com in a desktop web browser and select Play free in your browser. The first visit downloads about 30 MB of game files.
Wait for the Truckfish Games startup screen, then select Continue or let it move on by itself. On the title screen, select Play free. A plain How to play page opens once. Select Start playing, and your first colony and a fleet of eight ships are ready.
Follow the Next bar at the top of the star chart. It names the clicks for the first three steps, and Show me makes the first click for you. A review opens scrolled to its Confirm button.
Use the mouse. The Help button opens the longer guide, and the text size slider in Settings enlarges the interface text.
Select Save in the top bar and wait for the notice Practice game saved in this browser. Next time, choose Continue your saved game on the title screen.

Before you play

Know your game.

Early public release, build 20261023-0beedede4ffe. It is still being tested and tuned, and a group of players has not yet playtested it.
Checked in desktop Chromium and Firefox. Phones, tablets, Safari, Edge and older or low-power computers have not been tried. You need a browser with WebGL 2 and a mouse.
Practice games are saved in your browser's storage. Clearing site data removes the save, and a private window, another browser or another computer does not have it. A practice game you have not saved is lost when you reload the tab.
The shared online campaign runs on the Stargrip game server and needs a free Truckfish account. Each sign-in lasts 15 minutes, and then you approve again. If sign-in fails, check that your computer's clock is set automatically.
Stargrip runs in one browser tab at a time. A second tab shows a message until you use Save & return to website in the first.
Token upgrades are optional, and the game works without them. Tokens come in four packs from $2.99 on the Stargrip tokens page and work in the shared online campaign only. You can ask for a refund of unspent tokens within 14 days.
The browser build's sound has not been checked, and the mouse wheel and keyboard shortcuts have not been tried in a browser. Use the on-screen buttons.

Optional extras

Tokens are optional.

Stargrip is free to play, and every ordinary action in it works without tokens.
In the shared online campaign, a token upgrade shortens the timer on some new orders to 75% of the usual time. Five upgrades cost 25 to 50 tokens each. None adds resources, ships or weapons.
Four packs: 100 tokens for $2.99, 300 for $7.99, 700 for $16.99 and 1,600 for $34.99. Each is a one-time payment in US dollars, paid on Stripe's page.
You can ask for a refund of unspent tokens within 14 days of buying them. You must be 13 or older to buy tokens, and if you are under 18 a parent or guardian must agree to the terms and approve the purchase.
